UPDATE: The City Council press office and Councilman Daniel Garodnick’s office have confirmed that Friday’s hearing will go on as scheduled.
As of now, the City Council is still scheduled to hold its first hearing on Willets Point Friday in the City Council Chambers at 10 a.m, but several sources told me today it will likely be rescheduled.
Both pro- and anti-redevelopment groups have scheduled rallies on the City Council steps during the day.

An official for Councilman Daniel Garodnick (D-Manhattan), who chairs the subcommittee that would convene the hearing, just told me that while he heard the hearing would likely be moved, the situation remains “in flux.” Another city source also said the event will likely be rescheduled.
It will be a busy day at the Council, as the Subcommittee on Planning, Dispositions & Concessions will hear a presentation and testimony on the proposed redevelopment of Willets Point while legislators weigh in next door in the Committee Room on proposed bills dealing with the extension of term limits.
First up, the Queens Chamber of Commerce will bus supporters out to the hearing and host a pro-development rally ahead of the hearing at 9 a.m.
Queens for Affordable Housing, who would support the development only if business and property owners are treated fairly and affordable housing proposals were bolstered, will also hold a rally expected to occur at either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.
The Willets Point Business and Realty Association, who vehemently oppose the project, said as of the moment they have no plans for a rally, but will be attending in large numbers.
